By this I mean simply that to give an 'evil' entity a name say Satan then give it the powers a person attributes to said being.

Hi, no it does not, in fact what we call evil is in reality disobedience to God and what He has revealed in truth.
evil is living in a state of rebellion and when we repent of our sin then we are not only forgiven by God but we are brought back into His friendship.
absolute sin(evil) would be the definition of the devil as he cannot repent and is continually in rebellion and disobedience to his creator, and will never be forgiven.
people may well do bad things but they also do good things as well, so our definition that someone is evil is really an unfair description.

No, I disagree. First off you have to believe in Satan, which I do not. There is just positive and negative energy That is all.

The Mythical character of Satan has no power at all except the power of belief the individual gives it.

Well, I think that evil does not need a name to give it power. It already has power but so does good. Good can over come evil if you let it.

"evil" is the sublimation of the more unpleasant aspects of human animal survival instinct, a moral distinction made by domesticated human society but not by nature. being both predator and prey the human being relates to the killing and empathizes with the killed.

evil entities is the rejection and projection of these unpleasant animal instincts away from ourselves onto an invisible enemy.

Its power only comes over you if you do not have the shield of faith.

[002.208] O you who believe! Enter perfectly into Islâm (by obeying all the rules and regulations of the religion of Islâm) and follow not the footsteps of Shaitân (Satan). Verily, he is to you a plain enemy.

[035:004] And if they deny you (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]), so were Messengers denied before you. And to Allâh return all matters (for decision).

[035:005] O mankind! Verily, the Promise of Allâh is true. So, let not this present life deceive you, and let not the chief deceiver (Satan) deceive you about Allâh.

[035:006] Surely, Shaitân (Satan) is an enemy to you, so take (treat) him as an enemy. He only invites his Hizb (followers) that they may become the dwellers of the blazing Fire.

[035:007] Those who disbelieve, theirs will be a severe torment; and those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh – Islâmic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise).

[035:008] Is he, then, to whom the evil of his deeds is made fair-seeming, so that he considers it as good (equal to one who is rightly guided)? Verily, Allâh sends astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. So destroy not yourself (O Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]) in sorrow for them. Truly, Allâh is All-Knower of what they do!

I assume that the question is rhetorical. If so, you won't listen to anything I say.
