Exactly. Cooking doesn't have to be so uptight. I love just adding things to suit my taste. Why not? I'm going to be eating right? I want it to taste how I want it to taste!

I am a dumper. I make a lot of copy cat recipes where I just figure out what's in it on my own. Like I'll go to a restaurant and try to make the same dish at home.
I'll get an idea or two from a cook book (not sure why I collect them) and go it on my own.
But, you are right about the baking, need to follow the book then.

Well that all depends on if I'm cooking or baking. If I'm cooking, if using a recipe, I use the recipe only as a guidline. Sometimes I take away or add to or use all the correct ingredients in the recipe but in different measurements to my liking and/or mood or guest preferences. For example, I like my chili HOTTTTT, but my kids won't eat it that way so I take it down a little for them. I also love mushrooms but I have a friend who is allergic to them so I leave them out when she comes. So I'm a dumper.
As far as baking goes, I always measure because alot of recipes have precise amounts of certain ingredients that need to react in a certain way with each other or alone and won't work properly with incorrect quantities. HOWever, things like bread or pasta and the like will take different amounts of flour or liquid depending on various factors and can't really be measured the same every time :)

I'm a dumper I guess. However, I have an educated method so I guess it's not really dumping. I guess the best way to describe it is I "measure" with my tasting instead of using a tool.

Same here, I'm a dumper unless I'm baking. But I always dump it in my hand or a cup first so I don't accidently ruin another dish.

well when I make cakes or cookies I measure, but when cooking something I take it easy on the salt and all the other seasonings I just sorta dump them.

Same as you, I measure when baking and dump everything else. If its something good like garlic or a hot spice I'll always dump in extra!

I'm right there with you on being a "dumper."
Unless it's one of my mom's recipes. Then I try to follow it exactly.

I'm with you. I used to measure everything religously, but I've learned it's not so important unless baking.
