I volunteer with a local assisted living, I visit the elderly and I'm going to become a Big Sister with Big Brother/Big Sisters. What got me interested is because I see the need and feel like isn't just about me.

I don't volunteer anymore but I used to due to burnout.
Both my parents were teachers so it doesn't surprise me that I volunteered in our education system. I spent my time in my son's elementary school doing the B.A.R.'s program, working in the library and eventually chairing the school/parent council. During this same time frame I also gave my time to the city wide parent council.
Then the following year I was back at high school myself (Adult Education) and joined that school council as well. After spreading myself so thinly for one year, I had to stop doing it.
Perhaps when I retire I will go back and voluteer some more...

i used to volunteer with alzheimer's patients who were in the last stage of life. most of them were in wheel chairs. one nurse would put make-up on the ladies. i would go in and visit for a short time and then it was time to take them to the diningroom. i would also bring them their bibs. when their food came, i would find their tray and feed one patient at a time. there were other nurses in the room also doing the same thing. i learned how each one ate. i believe it was my favorite volunteer experience yet.

I've worked at the humane society and my parish for at least four years... the former because I love animals and the latter because they needed servers.
