2-4 is the "average". They can have 1 or they can have 9(or more).
I work at a cat shelter and see MANY litters and about 75% of the litter have between 2 and 4.
Well according to the Humane Society, it is 4-6. I stand corrected!! Must be the ones I see have smaller litters...most are street cats...guess that can account for that.

The First litter is normally 1 or 2 Sometimes 3, then after that it increases to the average litter of about 4 - 6.
I've never heard of a cat having 9 kittens in a single litter, but i suppose it's possible.

Average is 6. Could be 4 to 8. Note that cats have 8 nipples, and if all the kittens are going to survive, the mother cat can't make enough milk for more than that.

umm. 4-9 or 10 cause when i was lookin for a kitten the no haired cat had about 9
