Look for it under the name "simple syrup" and you might have better luck. You might also find it in a dessert/confectionary store or places that sell tea and coffee.

any speciality store should have it, but you could just make some,
1/3 sugar, 2/3 water boil untill the sugar melts, use when cool. But be aware that the homemade stuff doesn't really last more than 10 days or so, so only make as much as you need

I don't think simple syrup and gomme syrup are the same. Gomme has gum arabic added to it.
