This is just an observation. I was hospitalized with deppression and of course put in the mental health ward. I noticed that of 30 of us there only myself and 2 others were non-smokers.

Yes, of course. Many studies have shown that. It's also a sign of lower socio-economic status (income) and education.

That is not necessarily true, but is debatable. Mental health issues can cause you to cut yourself, overindulge in food, alcohol, or tobacco. biting your nails to the quick, and other unnatural symptoms.

When I was hospitalized for awhile I did see several smokers. But it might just be that they're smokers. But I see what your saying. They might need the nicotine to make them feel better. I don't know I don't smoke....
