I just took my pup out for a walk, and he had light green diarrhea poops. Is he sick, or did he just eat too many treats? We have recently been giving him milkbones, and most of them are the light green veggie flavor. Could this be why?

The reason I do not let him eat the grass is because there are a lot of dogs in our apartment complex, and I don't want him picking up any parasites from there feces that were on the grass

Keep an eye on him, and if this doesn't resolve in a day or so, go ahead and take him to the vet, along with some of that poop in a baggie. It could be that he just ate something weird that you may not have noticed. Or, if you have changed his food, this can cause a bit of tummy trouble. The milkbones themselves shouldn't cause too much trouble unless he's getting bunches of them. Keep them to a minimum, or as mentioned, break them into little pieces for treats when training.
FYI: Parasites can be picked up even without eating grass, although that is a good preventative too. Worm eggs can be in the grass, get on his paws, and he can inadvertantly lick them off when he licks his feet. It is a very good idea to give him a preventative wormer such as Interceptor or Heartgard Plus. This does require a veterinarian's prescription, so ask about this when you take him in. These preventatives also take care of heartworm, a deadly worm that is transmitted by mosquitoes.
I assume he's up-to-date on his vaccinations? If not, be sure to do this as well.
Good luck with your new pup!

A change in his diet could be responsible for the diarrhea, or it could be other factors. If it lasts more than 48, you should bring him to your veterinarian. They will likely take a fecal sample (or you can provide them one) and examine his feces for intestinal parasites. If you have not dewormed him yet, this may be the time. Some dogs, like some people, have very delicate digestive systems, so he may require a more mild food than what he's eating now (your vet probably carries a certain brand for intestinal maladies).
Also, a word to the wise: Milkbones are like twinkies. They are almost devoid of any nutritional value. If you are using them for training, try breaking them up into smaller pieces so that your dog doesn't eat quite so many. Otherwise, switch to carrots or ice cubes. Doggies love to crunch those up! :)

if youve just stated giving him milkbones and there light green then thats probably the cause. stop giving them and keep an eye on him. with him having the poops feed him on boiled rice with cooked chicken, fish or scrambled egg (but take the yolk out) for a few days. dont feed your normal dog food just the rice and stuff. if it his poops still dont clear up have him checked by your vet.

couldbe, does he have any other symptoms. Does he act low on energy. Is he vomiting, does he eat? Are his ears or pads of feet warm, this is were dogs show heat and fevers? If not keep an eye on his stools If he cont to do this for a couple of days or it gets clear, you may want to take him in.

It's the milk bones...only give treats once in a while unless you are using them durring trainning. Then break them into small pieces.....stay away from the green...bad news...it does it to our two dogs too.

If he is less than 6 months old, and hasn't had his shots, take him to the vet . Parvo is really dangerous, and attacks puppies. Unless he has been drinking milk, he shouldn't have diarrhea

It's very possible. When humans eat colored things, the color shows up when they poop. Too many treats may cause the diarrhea. When you change from their regular food, that can cause loose stool (poop)

Keep an eye on it. If he keeps having diarrhea, take him to the vet. He could get dehydrated very quickly.

think you have just answered your own question. if he really has bad diarrhoea starve him for twenty four hours letting him have only water, also milk can give a dog the runs.
