“Baby Girl Doe” was born in a Salinas, CA. lettuce field. The mother, a 17-year old Mexican who had recently arrived from Oaxaca abandoned her 3.5-pound infant in a portable toilet adjacent to the field where she worked.
When nearby workers heard the child’s cries, they found her floating face up in waste. “Baby Girl Doe,” seven weeks premature, was first taken to Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
The baby was airlifted to Stanford’s Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto for two weeks of specialized care.
The mother was charged in juvenile court with attempted murder, child abandonment and child endangerment.
Santa Clara County Assistant District Attorney Karyn Sinunu told me in an interview that these tragic cases are not uncommon.

Hospital OR Fire Station, the Baby Moses law. I dont get even with that law these immature irresponsible people cant just take their baby somewhere where it will be safe.

This is so sad it made me cry, as did Cheetas story. I also don't understand why Cheeta got so many thumbs down. I was particularly disturbed by:
"Society is going to say this is an insignificant event, burying an insignificant child, someone we didn't even know (or) get a chance to be acquainted with," said the Rev. Marlin Hall, who presided over the graveside service. "I believe Angel's life did count ... Her purpose was to bring us together."
If society feels this way we are in a lot of trouble. When someone innocent dies someone should notice, someone should be upset.
I also agree with Winter Wonderland. Where was the rest of the family in all of this? is this the family values that are so fondly touted by Mexican culture? LoveIsGood is also right, this happens too often all over the place and education is a must.
Finally I have no idea what in the hell Brian is rambling about but I would suggest posting BEFORE getting high

Yes, this is a good program. Since children today are in such a big hurry to have unprotected sex, at least they can drop the babies off at a safe place and not a Dumpster. We seem to be raising a bunch of irresponsible ingrates in this country and apparently other countries too!

I hear you. It is just disgusting that a human being would do that to a helpless newborn. I will pray for the baby, but also for the mother that she see the error of her ways and do what she can to seek forgiveness. She needs to be educated and sent out into her community to spread the word of abstinence, protection (via condoms) and if all else fails, to spread the word that we have a no questions asked baby dropoff policy. May God have mercy on her soul.

I don't understand how people in this persons life do not know what is going on. How can someone not tell tell that she is pregnant. Where are the parents. I give my son space but I believe I know what is going on in his life and we are open about the sex talk. He can come to us about anything and I would help him out if this would happen to him. I t is not the end of the world; a baby is the beginning of the new one.

The problem is not that she is a Mexican Mother, the problems is that girls of all races are doing it without consideration to the infant, I think they should all be penalized to the maximum .

Charged in JUVENILE court? Yes, don't they really add a lot to our culture? Why the hell is it so wrong to oppose the transformation through massive and rapid demographic change of our culture to that found to our south? I mean really, if given the choice between worrying about the limp-wristed hand-wringing of a bunch of liberal wet noodles condemning me for not being sensitive and being "racist" (non-racist meaning happily skipping off into ethnocultural senescense) who are too cowardly and weak to even assert that their own culture is even worth wimpering for; and our society becoming something that is completely alien to me, then I'll gladly choose the latter. To hell with the pasty scared noodles. They don't even have the self-confidence to reproduce.

40 Years to life is what I'd like to see. No, because then we would just have to house and feed her. How about floating in sh*t water for awhile before being sent back where she came from?
