As a soldier that just came from i raq 2 weeks ago. the only way to stop is just to call an end to it and leave, but the problem with that is that the military is so developed overthere that it would really make the US look weak, but who cares we would be out of there. Man you wouldn't believe all the money the US goes through just being over there. We are not accomplishing anything over there and that is how i see it, they don't even what our help.

We can't I'm afraid, however standard operational procedures need to be assessed regarding as to why the assault craft went to the point on the river bank to tie up whilst I surmise the troops went to investigate something suspicious on the bank or perhaps a possible mortar base plate position.
It strikes me that this particular position had been dicked for some period of time by the IED team.
Again I can only surmise that it was a particular spot that the troops used on a fairly regular basis, it was close to the solid shoreline, the bridge offered good cover from view against any firing party in the local area.
But, no there is no way to end this madness.
RIP the soldiers who died for a better world.

I think this question has been asked down the centuries, for all war is madness but the Conservatives are unlikely to do any different. You could try lobbying your MP if they are Labour and try to get up a petition to present them with which, if their majority is slim, might get their attention. Even ex-forces may not know that when exercises are planned a casualty rate is determined at which point the thing will be called off. I feel for the families of the soldiers who were killed and the three wounded very badly. At decision making level I'm afraid casualty rates for a war are within 'acceptable levels' it will be financial or for electioneering purposes that any promises or actual withdrawing of forces happens but I wouldn't hold your breath.

How can you say its madness? you should stop and think what would happen if we where to leave, the deaths of those four soldiers is regrettable but in the big scheme of things the number of dead is very low..
May be you have forgotten the purpose of military life.. its to do your duty no matter what!..

Old men with their fighting talk
Gathered round to sing
No-one knowing the words to the song
No-one knowing a thing

It's been like this since I was a kid
There's fighting on the streets
Friends have gone to a better place
The only place where there's peace

And we've got

No choice in the matter
No-where left to run
All the time they're talking 'bout talking
And the fighting still goes on

And we've got

No choice in the matter
Common sense is gone
We're all brothers growing up together
And the fighting still goes on

They say they're fighting for freedom
Say they're fghting for peace
Say it's all to bring us together - or
Bring us to our knees

We don't want them to talk for us
We don't want their words
Every time they open their mouths
It's just to cast a curse

And we've got

No choice in the matter
No-where left to run
All the time they're talking 'bout talking
And the fighting still goes on

And we've got

No choice in the matter
Common sense is gone
We're all brothers growing up together
And the fighting still goes on

Firstly bring our troops home,I'm sure no matter who is used as cannon fodder there will always be casualties in a war zone such as in the middle east. why not just let them get on with wiping themselves off the face of the planet and let God or alla sort it out afterwards. Peace out world why dont ya????

Peace begins within. Start with yourself - you can create your own perception of the world. You can create happiness within, peace within. Start today. Create yourself a great life, a happy life, a glorious life.

Happiness is not from a source outside of you. It is not caused by someone or something outside of you. It is a decision. Decide to be happy now.

Similarly for peace. Decide to be peace now. If you feel any "opinions" rising within, about anyone or anything, ask yourself why you are judging, why anger or any other thought/opinion, is growing within your mind.

If a thought of war arises, have a thought of peace. Remember who you truly are, Seek the Unconditional Love within. Be it.

One voice can make a song, one life can change the world. Chamge your world today. Begin now.

Have fun and Love everyone you meet. See them for who they truly are. Smile, laugh... Life is amazing and you can live the life you choose.
