I would have him check out by a vet and make sure he doesn't have a urinary tract infection.

Get him to the vets ASAP, he has a urinary tract infection, The reason he is not using the litter box is that when the problem first started and the pain began he now associates the litter box with pain.
If His urethra gets blocked and he cant void his bladder besides being unbarably painful it can also be a critical health problem, This can cause the kidneys to back up cause kidney damage and cause poisons to get into the cats system. This can all happen in a twenty four hour period. worse case scenario, You can wind up loosing your kittie.
Please take him to the emergency vet on call.

At 5 to 6 months old he is still to young to start spraying around the house.

That's odd... is there urine coming out when he tries to spray? He might have a blocked urethra or an infection that is causing pain. Perhaps you ought to take your cat to the vet to find out. When you catch urinary tract problems early, I understand they are relatively simple to treat. Don't wait till it becomes lifee-threatening when the vet costs could spiral!

IF it was, maybe they would not do it. Often they "vocalize" along with spraying to make their territory. He needs to be NEUTERED.
There would be a possibility of a UTI, but if he isn't fixed, it probably is a behavior issue.

Take the cat to the vet. He probably has a UTI if there is blood!!

No it is not painful. However, you really should consider having him done. Although it may be too late to stop him spraying as he has obviously developed the habit.

This happened to my cat, he had a blockage of some sort in his kidneys, it looked like he was spraying all over the place but really he was trying to pee, it was such a sin!

sounds like he has a urinary tract infection or is unable to urinate. I would DEFINITELY mention this when you take him to the vet. They may hold off neutering him until he is better

he needs to be neutered, 1st of all cuz' it smells aweful,2nd of all cuz' he's horny and marking his scent for a female, thus the crying.
