I'm studying in London for the semester and my boyfriend is coming in for the week in December...which rules out all the seaside vacations, I think. Any idea where I could go for a cute, cosy romantic getaway? Cotswolds and Bath have been suggested, but they're a bit pricey. Thoughts?

Bath is great, its worth it if you can scrape the money together, so many cultural things, beautiful buildings, etc.

Cornwall has some stunning places, castles and hidden coves etc, ok so the weather isnt going to be great, but theres nothing more romantic than wandering along a cliff or beach in the wind, getting back to your hotel room and 'warming up' together.

There are plenty of pretty little harbour villages around the south west coast which I bet are gonna be reasonably priced in December. Places like Mevagissy, Tintagel (where king arthurs knights of the round table were based), Newquay is big on night life, great wild beaches with surf, shops, and absolutely loads of hotels and b&b's.

I would imagine that if you go to the coastal areas, its gonna be cheaper than inland due to the time of year.

Hope you find somewhere, if you do go to Bath, dont bother with the Bath Spa. Expensive and pointless.

HOpe you find somewhere nice!

I enjoyed York because of the beautiful walls which surround the whole city. Chester also has great city walls, with lots of little shops built into the walls, but when I was there in September they were doing a lot of reconstruction work. It kinda took away from the picturesque aspect!

Pretty much anywhere in England will be pricey. The rate right now is about $1.90 to the pound. If you are planning to get away, I'd pick out a place soon...you can get pretty cheap train tickets if you book in advance (like 6GBP each way).

But if your boyfriend has never been to England, he'll probably enjoy any place you take him. I hope you guys have a lot of fun on your trip!
