It's all got to do with politics, personal preferences, spiritual convictions, and the like. I agree that we make too much of the differences, and that we should accept one another as Christian brothers and sisters without insisting that the other Christians believe just like we do. There are going to be a whale of a lot of Christians who stand before God's throne, look around at all the others and wonder how they all got there. Humans tend to think that since we're normal, everyone else who is normal will be like us. This carries over into our Christian beliefs and practices, unfortunately.

I think the Apostle Paul covered it very well when he spoke of the different parts of the body with their individual functions that still make up one Body. If a lung looked at a knee, the lung would think there was something seriously wrong with the knee. That hard bit in the middle (the bone) for instance: if a lung had a hard bit like that, it would be seriously ill. The knee looks at the lung and can't figure out how it survives with no bones to support it. Yet both are exactly as God has designed them to be.

Yes, we do serve the same God and His Son in many different ways. I think we need to get over ourselves, concentrate on Him instead, and love one another.

...ok, I'll get off my soapbox now....

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians is what led to this problem. Too many men got upset or angry with a particular thing that was being done or being left out and so they branched out on their own to create a subset of christianity until there were litterally dozens of christian sects. With so many wedges having been driven in between the sects it would only be a pipe dream to expect them all to unite.

Hi, I am a Christian and I have stopped telling people which denomination. I find that people judge when I tell people which I am. (some ask why I am that one and some agree with me feeling we are more alike either way that is too judgmental) Maybe we should all just say Christian and stop making so much of our differences. (let's make more of our similarities)

I am not sure why people want to block themselves into a denomination or a sect. I was freed from religion and worldly views. I am just a kingdom living believer in Jesus....

be blessed in Jesus

I have a dear friend from Cairo who is Coptic.I am Christian.
the Coptic church is almost exact to the Catholics. They pray to Saints and that sort of thing.I do not believe in that.We Christians are taught to pray only to God.

I think by specifying you are publicizing what your beliefs are. As you know, Orthodox is the first christian church. As the churches change they lose traditions that have been established from the time of the Apostles so they are not all the same.

Lack of unity in the Body of Christ.

Satan keeps us squabbling over little differences, because if we all got together there would be Hell to pay for Him.

Just my opinion

You have to understand the the divisions have deep political overtones. Focus on what you believe and be open to the ideas of others. But hold the courage of your convictions when others criticize you.

I will ring your doorbell and run away!!!
