I have two preschoolers and also work with preschoolers. The best reaction are from interactive touch and feel books (Some Eric Carle books are like this) Flap books are also great. It's just fun to be more interactive with children during storytime. Among my favorite books to read are:
The Very Busy Spider (Eric Carle)
Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do you Hear? (Eric Carle)
Green Eggs and Ham (Dr. Seuss)
The Runaway Bunny (Margaret Wise Brown)
Hopper (Marcus Pfister)
and my absolute favorite is The Napping House by Audrey Wood
Have fun!

I work at a preschool, and my favorite book to do with the kids is Brown Bear Brown Bear what do you see.
My summer 2s this past summer asked for that book every day, they got so attached to it!
You may want to look online to find the song that goes along with it because that makes the book much more appealing and more memorable.
Brown Bear is so great because it teaches all the animals as well as teaching all the colors.
At my preschool, that book is in the curriculum as the book read during the color unit, and the kids all come out of that unit knowing all their colors, it is perfect for any preschooler!

By far my preschooler loves her childrens Bible the best. Real stories about real people, anything that is real is fun for kids, they get so much pretend stuff now days.....find books with real looking pictures, not just bright and cartoony, (If you look at older books, they're more realistic in drawings, and less "Pokemon" looking) let them experience the world as God made it, maybe magizines with real pictures of animals, National Geographics (hand them some sisscors *sp) Have them write a book about themselves, draw or take pics, make a scrapbook...... they'll love to read it over and over.......My daughter really loves the series by Joy Berry, a children's book about _________ (sharing, helping, ect..) especially cause she like to roll play these out!
Don't get me wrong, cause we have plenty of pretend play and dramatic themes in our house, plenty of all the classics (eric carles, eb white, mouse cookies, maisys, ect.......) But whenever I ask her to pick a book out, she goes for the Bible, or for Joy Berry. She can use the skills and knowledge from her reading in her life, I think that's why she likes them. But that's her, every child is a different story......my answer is based on my experiece. (There's nothing better then sitting around listening to Pop tell her about his last hunting trip!!) lol

I teach pre-k and I agree that children tend to love books like Brown Bear, Brown Bear because of the repetitive and fun text. I also love many of the books written by Eric Carle or Mercer Mayer. When a child is very young it is best to read books that have great pictures and short sentences. The best part about the book is what the reader does. If you use different voices or show that reading is fun you will find that your child will also be excited about having stories read to them. In my class my students enjoy it very much when I read stories to them and it is always one of my favorite parts of the day.
