I suffer from hypochondria. I am always thinking that I have something. A simple ache or pain freaks me out. I always assume the worst. It's NOT healthy. Its horrible. It causes me to freak out and then my stomach will hurt. I have a lot of stress in my life, handling everything at once but never having a release (a walk, exercise, etc). I refuse to take medications because I don't like putting substances into my body. I do not drink, smoke, etc..but before you say anything, I still know how to be the life of the party and have fun. I want to know if I am alone out there or if anyone goes through this too. Please no one put me down, this is serious. Any solutions?

Having hypochondria is normal. I've known several people who are hypochondriacs and freak out about every little ache and pain, just like you. I would suggest that you have a complete checkup by your doctor, and if he or she gives you a clean bill of health, maybe you should then see a counselor to address your issue of hypochondria. It's definitely spoiling your quality of life, and if you're a fun-loving person, you could be having more fun and peace of mind once you convince yourself that you're not suffering from every disease known to mankind, and others that haven't yet been discovered. So no, you're not alone in this, but why suffer any longer? Try to get away from the things that are causing you stress and learn to relax and enjoy the finer things of life. Get some help! Good luck.

I have a close relative that has this problem. I think that this started during her childhood. Her mother focused on all of her older sisters illnesses. Now, I am not saying that sometimes people are legitimately sick but there is a difference. Anxiety does go hand and hand with hypochondria. I think that the solution is to start focusing more on other thoughts, like a craft, sport or other activity. Get involved in a club or group. Good luck.

Oh goodness! It is nice to know that other people are the same. I have been struggling with a crazy and horrible mixture of the two for over 5 years. Its bad at times and it calms at times - but its always there ready to pounce at the slightest sign of anything. I dont want to take drugs either - that doesnt solve the problem. I am trying to get to see a psychologist - to figure out how to relax and maybe why I feel like this. I do understand completely though - what its like to never have down time - but be careful because after time it really does some bad things to your body stresswise.
