After his conviction he was ordered released by Nixon where he was placed under house arrest pending his appeal. The appeal drug on (for something like 3 years) until a federal judge finally ordered him released. He sort of disappeared from the public eye but last word from his attorney a few years ago was that he was living with some form of mental disorder (PTSD) in the Columbus, GA area (father-in-law's jewelry store). I have linked his bio page below (it also links the My Lai massacre and courtmartial pages at the bottom).

He was found guilty of the personal murder of 22 people including children and sentenced to hard labor but this was commuted to house arrest after a few days in prison and three years later Nixon gave him a full pardon and he was released.
