How about Cornish game hens? The kids might like having there own tiny bird. Or is the kids are very small, they can split a hen. You can cook then just like turkey, stuff them if you want, and as a big plus for kids, more than one wish bone.
Instead of a big pie for desert, you can make tarts in mini pie pans, or mini cobblers.
You can use those same small pie pans and make individual sweet potato casserole.
As long as we are going small, how about those mini corn on the cob you get from the freezer section?
Bake lots of cookies, and have cookies and cocoa after dinner.
When I was small I loved that kind of thing.
The kids will have a great Thanksgiving with you, just by spending time with you and helping in the kitchen. Simple things they can handle. Then they will be proud of themselves for helping cook, The best gift you can give them is time with you.

I think that although turkey breast is better for you that the kids would have so much more fun if you cooked a couple turkey legs from the grocers freezer. Directions will be on the package. Kids also love ham and you can usually get a good shank portion quarter ham at 99 cents a pound. Because it is only you and the kids this time it will make a nice day for them to see giant chicken legs from the turkey all the way up to about 13 years old. Wishing you and them the best day and many more as a family and with other family and friends in the future.

You NEED to make too much. Thats what we remember about Thanksgiving. Even though it makes no sense for anyone... it's the variety that makes us always remember Thanksgivng.
If money or time is an issue....
The Turkey breast is a great start, but with it, make a small batch of stove-top stuffing, 1 can of cranberry sauce, a pot of instant mashed and a can of gravy. Throw in a can of corn and finish it with a frozen punkin pie and a dollup of cool whip. This is less than $25 worth of food and less than 30 minutes of prep (not counting roasting the turkey breast). You'll kids will NEVER remember it as a "wierd" or different Thanksgiving

make the same stuff you did last year..
ALL the fixings ans stuffing and pies and buns, just cut back on the amount of stuffing and potatoes and stuff....and if you have left overs for a day or two..hey that's part of thanksgiving too..
maybe the smallest turkey may be to big for you..so get the size breast that will fit your needs, but make all the other stuff that goes a long with it..and do not forget the whipped cream...and maybe even some ice cream too....
but if it was just me and the 3 kids I would get a very small turkey and stuff it and do it the way I did last year, and just do the left overs , and turkey pot pies, and turkey soup at the end of it all....
but hey that's just me......
good luck
HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and yours...
smile
and
God Bless

You could buy a turkey as small as 6lbs and then you have leftovers for lunch and other tasty treats, as a kid I loved the look of the turkey as my mom pulled it from the oven, just get a small one, whats turkey day with out drumsticks and a wishbone to wish on? Anyway I digress, you could serve, candied yams:
INGREDIENTS
1 (29 ounce) can sweet potatoes
1/4 cup butter, cut into pieces
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
Place sweet potatoes in a medium baking dish. Distribute butter pieces evenly over the sweet potatoes. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Layer with miniature marshmallows.
Cover and bake in the preheated oven 25 minutes, or until sweet potatoes are tender and marshmallows have melted.
Quick Green beans: Quick Green Beans
Ingredients:
3 1/2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
1 1/2 cups milk
1 package (20 oz.) frozen green beans -- cooked and drained
3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Stir flour, salt and pepper into melted butter in a saucepan. Stir in milk; cook until thickened. Pour over green beans. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese, brown under broiler.
Stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes, and dinner rolls. Don't forget the pie for dessert and sparkling cider yum!
Have a good holiday!

Go to Food Network.com and look for a Turkey Remulade (sp?). It was fantastic. You take a fresh boned turkey breast and pound it out like you would do for a cutlet. It is filled w/ stuffing, bacon and other goodies. Roll it up and bake it. Dang it was good. Probably going to do the same again this year too.

Even though they're young, They will remember the Turkey. Its exciting and its a holiday. Dont break the tradition. And you will enjoy it. It will mean more to you to have the traditional meal, and pass the tradition onto your children.
They sell small turkeys, and you can use the left overs for sandwiches, soups or whatever.
Happy Thanksgiving..!

I have the same problem. I'm feeding myself and a 14 y-old and a 3 y-old. I'm having a nice dinner, but I'm not making big portions.
Turkey breast (small) and 2 turkey wings. (I like the wings)
cornbread dressing (small pan)
cranberry sauce
collard greens or string beans (small pot)
rolls & gravy
macaroni & cheese (small pan)
dessert: chocolate cake and our favorite icecream
