I understand your feelings, thanks for sharing them.
Well I think its certianly ok to study the 4 gospels, do not fear versions or languages, just capture the essence of the message. Do not miss what is to be gained for fear of what is lost.
Perhaps it is time to move churches, or have a talk with the pastor. There is nothing more important in the Bible than "the red ink" or, what Jesus said.
Are you in a bible study or cell group?? Perhaps you can influence it to get back to the pure teachings of Jesus.
If your spirit is disturbed by a pastor trying to look smart with some great new interpretation, challenge them or perhaps move on. We are after God, not man, right??
I think I understand your heart and I give you a big hug. Bless you.
Love David

Sometimes I do wonder about the integrity of various translations of Biblical texts. Especially all the new summaries and paraphrases and different versions. I do believe that God is perfect and that he is able to work through imperfect people, including imperfect writers and translators. The way he does this is through the Holy Spirit. When you or I read the bible, we can ask the Holy Spirit to teach us how to apply the Word to our lives and how to know God more personally. I figure that if God can used a bunch of untrained fishermen, he can use an English version of a Greek/Aramaic/Hebrew text.

No. I believe the bible is the inpsired word of God. Where to find out more about the character of God than by His word? You say, we study Matthew, Mark, Luke and John more than we study the Lord. Hon....where do we find about about Jesus? From His word.
The bible says, study to show yourself approved; a workman that need not be ashamed. We need to know the word, and that is how we come to know the character of our Lord, and how He would have us live.

i do feel the same way. you are probably Catholic which puts more emphasis on the Saints and Marry and the apostle Paul than they do on God himself.
about different Bible translations. it is digusting. it makes me feel sick to hear the words of the "message" which is just a paraphrase. aparantly there is a new version that now says that Jesus came to give us completeness instead of salvation.

And Jesus answered saying to them "Have faith in God" (Mark 11:22) "Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me" (John 14:1) "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the Kingdom" (Luke 12:32) "What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? (Romans 8:31,32) "For I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that HE is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day." (IITimothy 1:12)

Most religions have wandered away from what the truth of Jesus was and is. You have to ask yourself, if I die tomorrow will I go to Heaven or Hell? If you have even a 10% doubt, then you need to look closer at your definition of who God is and whose child you are. Then you need to read the book. B.I.B.L.E= basic instructions before leaving earth.
