You know the Emmaus story, where two disciples didn't recognize Jesus who just rised from the dead. Do you get any signs in that story that the disciples believe in the resurrection?

And I have a second question about the story with the adulteress. I think that the main theme isn't the adultery but Jesus' intelligence, how he deals with the Pharisees: I mean they wanted to have a reason for condemning him. Anyway, what meaning or importance does "death" has in this story?

Thank you so much

It does not seem that the disciples in the "Road to Emmaus" story believed that Jesus had risen from the dead, not until they recognized who he was. My main reason for saying this is because of how Jesus talks to them. In verse 25 and 26 of Luke 24, he says, "How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?" And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself." They had not fully grasped yet who Jesus was, where He was from, and what He had repeatedly told His disciples in the months beforehand.

About the adulteress, I believe that you are correct. The story is more about the wisdom and fairness of Christ than the adulteress herself. If you notice, the Pharisees only bring the woman before Christ. In adultery, there are always two that commit the sin of adultery, a man AND a woman. It was meant as a trap, and he not only eluded the trap, but turned the pharisees and men upon themselves and their own sin nature in self-condemnation.

I'm not sure there is much more meaning here than this: Those caught in adultery were to be put to death according to the old Law of Moses found in the old Testament. This is the Law that Jesus did away with in dying on the cross. Men were then free from the law of Sin, and could be saved then by the Gift of Grace that Christ came to give through His death, burial and resurrection.

To your Emmaus-question: Yes, one of the diciples sais: "And today is the third day, after all of this ..." (not verbally quoted) - he must have known that Jesus Christ in HIs talks with the diciples had spoken about His ressurrection on the third day (see: Mattewh 16:21; 17:23; 20:19; Luke 18:33; 24:46).

To your question about the story with the adulteress: The main focus is on forgivness. God forgives, even an aduteress, when someone comes and repents. What Jesus did, was to show the pharisees, that no one is without sin and all of us, even this intelligent scribes, need God's forgivness.

Their slow, plodding, downcast journey to Emmaus

Their recognizing Jesus in the Baruch and the breaking of bread.

Their hearts warmed, they realized that the Risen Lord had journeyed with them.

Their speedy return to Jerusalem (compared to their long, slow, trip to Emmaus) certainly is a "sign" that they now believed in His resurrection.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO STUDY ..

ITS CLEAR BOTH BOTH MEN BELIEVED UPON THE RESURRECTION WHEN JESUS ATE WITH THEM=ALLOWING HIS TRUE IDENTITY TO BE MADE KNOWN=THEY SAID, DID NOT HIS WORD BURN OUR HEARTS- AND TEY RAN ALL THE WAY BACK TO JERUSALEM (ABOUT 6 MILES) TO TELL ALL THAT JESUS OUR LORD HAS AROSE.....

ADULTERESS-SIMPLY SIN...

ALL WERE QUICK TO CONDEMN AND JUDGE WOMAN GUILTY OF SIN (YET THEY ALL WERE JUST ATE UP WITH SIN THEM SELVES) AND WILLING TO PUT HER TO DEATH- JUSTIFY HER DEATH YET NOT WILLING TO EXAMINE THEMSELF..JESUS SAID HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN LET HIM CAST THE FIRST STONE......JESUS WAS WRTING IN THE SAND WITH THE STICK--BIBLE DOES NOT TELL U WHAT-BUT WE CAN GUESS -SINS OF THOSE PEOPLE--ADULTERY THEY HAD COMMITTED AND WHO WITH-NAMES--NAMES BEING WRITTEN... AND AS JESUS WROTE THOSE NAMES IN THE SAND THE GUILTY PEOPLE SAW THEIR NAMES AND THEIR SINS STARING BACK AT THEM AND KNEW THIS MAN KNEW THEIR SECRETS AND THEY BACKED AWAY AND RAN-THEY WERE AFRAID TO CAST FIRST STONE-FOR THEY TOO COULD BE STONED...

AND JESUS ASKED WOMAN..WHERE ARE YOUR ACCUSERS?
SHE SAID I SEE NONE?
AND HE SAID, NEITHER DO I--GO SIN NO MORE....

JUST THE SAME AS -DONT JUDGE SPECK DUST IN BROTHERS EYE WITH PLANK STUCK IN YOURS.....
