I have been trying with my puppy, using Purina Dog Litter and Pan since we live in an apartment, but it worked for a day or two, then all of the sudden he preferred to go outside, he would rather sit by the door and wait for someone to take him out. So it all depends on your patience and maybe your dog.

It's called paper train for a dog. Use paper and keep it as close to the outside door as possible. As the pup grows it will go to the door even when the paper is gone. Then you put it outside. ie the dog is trained.
