deep question !
Well I have tried to love for God ...It requires selflessness...And selflessness come form the love and fear of God not humans...

Very hard thing to do...Being slefless also requires for me the belief that there is life after death,,,only then can one leave this world of desires and urges...for something better.
Also fear of being punished in the life after death would be my answer...

Its hard (not impossible) especially if ur parents keep telling u otherwise and so does ur desires;)
The thing most interesting I found was that parents dont understand that our slefless love is also A GR8 thing for parents themselves!!

But i would blame MY OWN desires as the true culprit..

True selfless love doesn't require sacrifice. Having the ability to practice and understand empathy is a good starting place for this kind of virtue which we call "selfless love."

It is simply The Order that allows one to be able to do this. I train students in the ways of The Order and those who desire to practice sacrifice, selfless love, and serve humanity may train further and one day become Eranai. But alas, there are few who are that dedicated as it requires giving much of yourself. However, in return for your sacrifice, The Order grants you certain abilities which are in themselves as well as in knowing that you serve The Order and mankind a wonderful reward.

Nothing but the Spirit of Christ, the Lamb of God will enable a man to live a truly self effacing and sacrificial life. Man is born with a selfish nature and cannot perform a truly unselfish act any more that he can grab himself by the boot straps and lift himself up off the earth. ONLY the Spirit of God is truly Good and apart from God there is no good. Therefore it is contained in Scripture this statement "Do not marvel that I said to you, "You must be born again" " (John 3:7)

If you want to feel selfless love toward someone, you are sadly starting on the wrong foot.

There are four types of love, according to the Greeks.
Philia - friendship love
Storge - affection love
Eros - desire love
Agape - selfless love.

A combination of the first three is a self - centered love, all four equates to a completely selfless love. The fourth love, Agape, comes completely naturally, and cannot be forced.

We need to truly know God's love. Could a mother die for her child? That is sacrificial love and that is why Jesus died for us. He loves us so much it's hard for us to comprehend. We cannot do it on our own, but Phillipians 4:12 tells us "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Love is the greatest gift of all and if we ask God for it, I believe He will give it to us. Then we can share it with others. Like this for example.

The love of Jesus enables us to practice selfless love. It's just that most people don't don't care what Jesus wants. They're perfectly content just being selfish snobs, and don't bother practicing brotherly love cause they're too busy loving themselves.

Wow what a good question, first of all.....

The Holy spirit is my best answer. One step of faith can start us walking in a much purer direction than we have been.

Humility and being honest with one's self are other things that will help us towrds this virtue

Thanks for letting me share my opinion on the matter

God's love. But love comes from God who is Love. But then we are to love others as oursleves. We aren't to hate ones self.

Selfless love would be to love others greater than oneself. Like Jesus did when He shed His own blood on the cross for the remission of our sins.

Selfless love is the greatest love. This love comes from God. Many have given their life for others well being, and this is sacrificial love.
