Tink, Thank you, Yes, I am trying to quit, I have smoked for about 40 years now, I am almost 57. My lungs are screwed up, and I have to quit, or Die. It is so hard. I am really going to give it a great shot and use the scriptures you recommended. Thanks again,
God be with you always, sincerely, your sister, Juanita

Let me congratulate you 4 weeks without a smoke. It is a hard habit to break, I know because I smoked 7 years and quit in 1973 and stayed away from them for 15 years and then started smoking again and was a 2 and half to 3 pack a day smoker again after only one month. I smoked about a year and a half and quitting the second time was worse that the first, but it has now been 16 and a half years smoke free. I do not ever want to start again.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but Colossians 2:20 - 23 has nothing to do with smoking or quitting. Paul is summing up his lesson to the collisions that they are not to let the Jews or anyone else command them to eat certain foods and to observe certain days or seasons or certain commands such as do not touch etc. .

Verse 23 really sums it up by saying these things have an appearance of wisdom, but are self imposed religion and false humility.

Philippians 1:6 has nothing to do with smoking either.

A proper verse to encourage people they have the power to conquer addictions try quoting Philippians 4 13- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

The above verse give believers power to do whatever they need to do because Christ is the strength that gives power.

Praise the Lord! The Lord delivered me from smoking after 20 yrs. 2 1/2 months ago and I'm not suffering from it either. The pastor prayed over me.
Now remember if any temptation comes your way
James 4:7
7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Hallelujah! All glory to God!
