The kitten really should be 8 weeks old, but if the mother is having problems, then the kitten should be alright.

I don't know why the mom would be acting strange.. kittens are typically given away at 6-8 weeks. I would maybe give it another week or two before I gave them away. Good luck!

Kittens should be with their mothers at least 6-8 weeks, 12 weeks is the best. It helps them better develop their personality and social skills those last few weeks.

If the mother is rejecting the baby, you should probably get them separated, she might hurt the kitten. If you think there's something wrong with her, go take her to the vet. she might be sick, which is making her act strange to her babies. It's best to wait until the end of November to find the babies homes.

Our local shelters will not accept a kitten under three months of age. The mother is beginning to wean the kittens. She will reject nursing them some of the time to encourage them to eat on their own. This is a natural part of raising a kitten.

They still need to learn manners from their mother and littermates at this age. I have seen so many postings about cats that play too rough and try to nurse on their owners. This behavior is a direct result of being separated from their mother and littermates too soon.

The play fighting they do amongst themselves teaches them how to play without extending the claws and use their mouths, without biting too hard. While the kittens may be able to survive on their own without their mother to nurse, they are in no way mature enough to be separated from their mother or littermates at barely six weeks of age. They are still getting some important immunities from their mother's milk at this age. Just look through all the questions asking for help with six to eight week old kittens who have diarrhea that have been posted on this board. You need to keep that family together for a while longer.

It would be best to wait until the end of November when the kitten is about 8 weeks old.

The kitten is too young. Wait until the kitten is 9 weeks old.

Sure, five or six weeks is okay, as long as it is litter trained and eating kitten food.

Try giving them some food & see if they are ready to eat on their own. They usually pick that up quick. The mothers milk may have dried up too & that is why she is rejecting them. They may not be getting enough from her. 6 wks is old enough if they will eat for you.
