Q) How long will it take to reach black belt?
A) This is difficult question to answer, as it really depends on how often you train, and the rate at which you can learn typical it takes at least 2-3 years to achieve the rank of 1st Dan black belt in a year or even 6 months!
Traditional TaeKwon-Do takes a lifetime to lean, and senior ranks are attained through hard work, dedication to the art, and a mental development that occurs naturally during the training process. We place more importance on teaching good technique, and leadership rather than. The quick advancement in rank.

this is from my tkd website, we have grading every 3 months and he says it is easy to get white yellow and green but from blue belt it is extremely hard, is this true
i do itf tkd

Belt gradings and time frames are for 1 thing only.$$$$$$$$$$$.
you grade when you are told your ready.then you decide when your ready if your instructer pressures you maybe it's time to think about a new instructer.if you do tkd at a mcdojo its easy to get any belt.MA is a lifetime journey.experience is more important than rank or title.

I have to say that attaining a first Dan Black belt in 6 months is completely crazy (unless you have that cool download port in the back of your head from like Neo from The Matrix, then yeah it'd be possible, but wait that's a movie; and we're in the REAL world) it took me 4yrs to get to where I am (and that's with off and on training in a class setting).

So to say that getting a 1st Dan blackbelt in 6 months isn't right. Because by 6 months, you should only be yellow belt or maybe a little higher because the more you progress, the more time it should take between ranks.

it prob'ly meant that it's 6 months to a year from the highest junior rank (which is prob'ly a Red belt) to 1st Dan blackbelt.

it does get MORE and MORE difficult as you progress because you're adding to what you've already learned in your techniques.

if you're testing every three months now, the time between one belt rank and the next should be increasing due to the complexity of the forms or fighting techniques and how well you can apply them.

There is some truth in this, but some I question.
1st dan in 6 mos-1 yr is absurd. 3-5 is more typical in a good program.
If they don't place so much emphasis on rank, how can someone earn 1st dan in 6 mos?
If testing is every 3 mos, how can someone reach 1st dan in 6 mos?

I don't know that it is possible to master TKD. I've been training almost 15 years. The more I learn, the more there is that I realize that I don't know. TKD isn't a destination, it is a journey. Enjoy the trip.

getting a black belt and how long it takes depends on the person. if they go to a good school they will not test until they are ready. At my school last year our Master said that everyone will be able to test every 6 months between ranks. He said this maybe shorter if your instructors really believe you are ready to progress but only if they are sure you are ready. if not every 6 months is the rule. Unless your instructor at 6 months does not think you are ready then it maybe longer. but just because you test doesn't mean you pass.

Body control is a good thing. Being able to do every single technique exactly the same every-time is good practice.
Having prescribed intervals of rank and tests is not how we do it at our school.

You really shouldn't worry about rank. It has no value.
