The main symptom of appendicitis is abdominal pain. The pain is at first diffuse and poorly localized, that is, not confined to one spot. (Poorly localized pain is typical whenever a problem is confined to the small intestine or colon, including the appendix.) The pain is so difficult to pinpoint that when asked to point to the area of the pain, most people indicate the location of the pain with a circular motion of their hand around the central part of their abdomen.

As appendiceal inflammation increases, it extends through the appendix to its outer covering and then to the lining of the abdomen, a thin membrane called the peritoneum. Once the peritoneum becomes inflamed, the pain changes and then can be localized clearly to one small area. Generally, this area is between the front of the right hip bone and the belly button. The exact point is named after Dr. Charles McBurney--McBurney's point. If the appendix ruptures and infection spreads throughout the abdomen, the pain becomes diffuse again as the entire lining of the abdomen becomes inflamed.

Nausea and vomiting also occur in appendicitis and may be due to intestinal obstruction.

Signs Of Appendix Burst

If you had a ruptured appendix you would likely be VERY sick. It's rare to have an appendicitis without a fever. There are a few signs that a physician would look for during examination. 1) Rebound tenderness: Does it hurt more when pushed or when you let go. The second is a sign of appendix problems. 2) Peritoneal signs: Hitting a bump in the road while driving becomes excruciating. 3) Obturator and Psoas signs: Turning your right leg in and out would increase the pain. If you don't have any of these signs and no fever then it's highly unlikely that you have an appendix issue. With that said, it is always best to get it checked out. You have probably bought yourself a CAT scan of the abdomen and pelvis. It's likely a ovarian cyst, constipation, or mesenteric adenitis (not serious) but it's not something to blow off.

You can have some or all of the following: Nausea, pain that in the beginning feels like it is all over but then tenderness in the right side below the belly button but above the groin, just a real sick feeling that just slows u down. This link could help.

Don't be dumb like me wait til it burst, I almost died cause I didn't want to go to the hospital. Then I was even sicker because the infection spread. Catch it early so your not vomiting and causing more problems.

Fever, nausea, vomiting, right lower quadrant pain, rebound tenderness, inability to stand and hop on right foot. These are all factors I have watched a surgeon use to determine appendicitis. Also the doctor relies on blood work such as a white blood count. All of these factors together can aid in giving a diagnosis.
