yuck my friend is sitting here with a toenail that is completely black.
It looks like it has been burnt...but it hasn't, what could it be? (apart from ugly)

I had a black toenail because I stubbed my toe really badly. The old toenail comes off when a new toenail has grown in underneath it.

If it is black, it could be a fugus on it caused by not drying your feet properly. When bathing or showering make sure you dry your feet, even between the toes. Use cotton socks. Air your feet as often as possible.

You can get over-the-counter creams (Daktarin) for the infected toe-nail. You should start seeing improvements after about 2 weeks.

That tends to happen when there has been trauma to the nail. DId he stub his toe really hard?
