What kinds of things do I need to pack in my suitcase and what things can I put in my purse to board a Delta plane? May I bring DVD's in my suitcase that will go into the baggage part of the plane? Will the DVD"s be ruined by some kind of X-ray?

The only thing that might get ruined in checked bag x-ray is camera film. It's fine getting x-rayed in the carry-on screener. Watch the liquids, but I believe that has been answered above. www.tsa.gov is an excellent source.
Don't check medications or car keys either (or anything else you would NEED within 10 hours).

You can bring your DVD's if you want -and a DVD player.

You can bring the small, travel size toiletries in a small ziplock bag - to include your lipstick, gloss etc.
