Skeptics point out that the Indigo movement lacks verifiable evidence to support its claims. Although some of the authors of Indigo literature have degrees in psychology, Indigo Child is not a recognized term in the field of psychology.

Indigo literature frequently talks about "university studies" and "interested scientists," however scientists such as Russell Barkley, a research professor of psychiatry, have stated, "There's no science behind it. There are no studies."[7] Barkley has also expressed concern that labeling a disruptive child an "Indigo" may delay proper diagnosis and treatment that may help them.

Indigo Children are often the offspring of New Age parents. Exposed to New Age thinking, it might be taken as unsurprising if the children possess a greater tendency to use spiritual language than earlier generations. Having been told that the vast majority of children are now Indigos, New Age parents in fear of suppressing this special generation may be encouraging antisocial behaviors. It is said that many of the traits identifying Indigo Children could simply be interpreted as simple arrogance and selfish individualism.

Just as many people tend towards astrology because it presents believers with simple, complimentary accounts of themselves, critics of the Indigo Child concept claim that parents relate to the hypothesis because it provides a more flattering conclusion about their child than current mainstream psychological descriptions that are popular among most parents, such as ADHD or Asperger's Syndrome.

Critics have also voiced concern that teaching children that they are Indigo will encourage children to adopt sociopathic behaviors, such as a sense of human superiority, alienation, and a "bizarre" paranormal identity.

never having heard the term before i looked it up , i am 49 , seems to me what i have read is describing what i have always known to be called "an old soul" a young child with wisdom, knowledge, actions/reactions beyond its years. for example my 7 yr old is an "old soul" at age 5 i worried when her pony got sick and knew it was going to die. i started to explain to her and she came back with " mama, penny is going home to be with god but she will always live in my heart because i will always love her." when the pony died she didnt get upset or cry. she hugged his cold body, put barrettes and clips in his mane so "he can go home pretty" she's not anti-social or aggressive actually i kinda feel that her" old soul " is spooky sometimes. she is opinionated, she refuses to wear shorts or above the knee dresses. we are religious but not fanatics. so cant blame parental teachings , nor are we permissive parents but it seems she has a different - more strict set of rules/morals then the rest of us, hence the "old soul" idea. indigo child ? perhaps. all i know is we have been chosen to raise her, and by raising her will learn from her. cherish the moments you have with your child ,lifes too short to waste time annalizing it.

You can believe it if you want, it is your choice. Some people close their brains to things that they do not understand. My youngest daughter has always shone some different signs in her life that made me question the same thing about her. I just listen to what she has to say and go on with life. I always write them down. That way, maybe in the future we can figure out what she was talking about. Do some research, join some lists that talk only about indigo kids. You are always going to find ignorance in the world...so ignore their advice to seek counseling! :)

I looked it up because I'd never heard that term a day in my nearly 29 years. All I've got to say is it was the funniest thing I've read in a long time. Oh and you need to seek professional help for yourself because you're nuts if you believe that garbage.
