The hole seems to be the same size after the extraction and it's been a week. It is also very painful when I rise with salt water. Should I be worried? Thanks!!!

Yes you should. I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out and it really only hurted like the first day and a half. By the end of the week, it was just sore. But not like you are describing. I would call the dentist a.s.a.p.!! Take care I hope you feel better. Nena

First of all, you should know you heal from the inside out.... Meaning, the hole on the outside may not seem to be healing, but it is. The process starts on the inside of that hole, not on the outside. The beginning healing stages of that extracted tooth site, is the clotting process. Then the scabbing process.... It takes time for the 'hole' to disappear. EVERYBODY is different as well... if your a healthy person, who has great health eats right and arent sick.. the healing process is faster than those that arent in better health. There are soooo many reasons why people dont heal as fast as others! If you drink alcohol.. or are a smoker... things like these cause longer delays in healing. If you have a cold (any illness)... can cause delays. Everybody is different!! You have to remember that.....

Warm salt water rinses, helps in a healing process. You shouldnt feel pain though... but YES, you can have aches still, in this phase of the process. It simply takes time! Give it another week... you should be feeling better. If not, go see a local dentist. Another thing, dry sockets are out of the question, at this time period as well. Your way past that point! So no worries there... I just think you need to give it more time. Take some Ibuprofen this will help in the discomfort as well.

Trauma in the mouth ( and that includes dental extraction )
Will heal remarkably quickly.

Rinsing with mouthwash or salted water will prevent any infection

your hole will heal quite soon .

If you are still concerned ,
consult the Dentist who did the extraction.

all best wishes

Usually 3-4 wks for hole to totally fill in. *Gently* swish w/wm salt water. If pain increasing or you see swelling, have fever ,bad taste or pus in mouth, consult your DDS as soon as poss.
Good luck ! RN in Ca.

Not worried, but be careful. dont use the salt water too much. you could dry the hole out and get a "dry socket:" and those are PAINFUL......
