Tongues is a language. The gift of tongues was the ability to speak in a foriegn language that you have not been taught. Read Atcs chapter 2 and look at verse 6-10 you will find that the tongues the apostles spoke was foriegn languages of humans and that each person from that country heard their own language by uneducated men.
Once the bible defines something it is meant to remain defined that way unless scripture redifines it whcih it never does, that would be too confusing and make God a God of confusion instead of a God of peace.

It's when the Holy Spirit descended on the apostles, and they began to speak in different languages. Here is the passage:
Acts 2:2-6
Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in HIS OWN LANGUAGE.
The last three words aren't in capitals, but I made it that way for emphasis. It is not speaking in gibberish, and it is not speaking a "God" language. It's simply having the ability to speak another language without learning it.
If people think otherwise, they need to read their Bible.

God or Satan too may speak an unearthly language. Yes it is real, but the least of the gifts. Love, that is unconditional love towards everyone is the greatest gift. However no Church practices this.

yes, they are said to be the holy languages of God that not many people understand. Speaking in tongues and translating tongues are both gifts of the spirit.

People babble and talk gibberish. It is one of the more insane ideas in religion.
Mk.16:17-18 "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
drink some poison and then I might believe your "tongues"
