Proverbs 18:21 is very clear: Death and Life are in the power of the tongue.
We know when we're being mean and hurtful, we don't care at the time we are saying ugly things, it all boils down to pride. We get in a tail spin and spew out garbage which in turn can make a person go over the edge.
We are to be mindful of other human beings at all times, after all, who knows what's going on in their head, how do we know what type of day any of us have had, or if just one kind word could erase any pain they are feeling. Watch and choose our words very carefully and when we do say hurtful things, confess and repent to the Lord and ask that person for forgiveness.
We come up with, we're only "human", and as true as that is, we are also new creatures in Christ and he would never say anything out of anger or spite. We should follow his example at all times.

In reality, our words can kill now!!! Some suicide cases can be avoided if people would just stop and listen to what they say (or even how they say) to another. Just knowing this helps me speak to another in a way that will uplift knowing that my words can have an affect on others. As Proverbs 16:24 states "Â Pleasant sayings are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and a healing to the bones." We should always let our words be calming and soothing to others.

there is power in the tongue, and words can kill, and they can heal, God created the heavens and the earth with a word. there is no one here that can say no one has ever said anything to them that has made them feel one way or the other. we are all held accountable for the things we say to someone. when i was a child if i said anything close to a dirty word my mouth was washed out with soap.

I feel every one can benefit from being nicer. I make mistakes just like anyone else. But if I try a little harder every day than I just might succeed. Thank God.

I would always despise anyone who was mealy-mouthed with ME, and owe everyone else my honesty if they are to trust my frequent sincere compliments and kind words. Honesty is not always nice.
