I'm a Californian, and I enjoyed California Adventure enormously.
I think a lot of the bad press is unfair. It has only been open for 5 years... of course it's smaller and isn't going to have as many rides as the venerable Disneyland. Yet, nobody mentions that California Adventure easily beats the Animal Kingdom and MGM in Florida, both of which are older parks.
There are a couple of big-ticket attractions that no one should miss: Soarin' Over California, California Screamin', and the Tower of Terror.
There are two 3-D shows similar to Disneyland's "Honey, I Shrink the Kids"...of these, I prefer "It's Tough to be a Bug" over the "Muppet Show".
Grizzly River Run is pretty good. Monsters, Inc. is an alright dark ride. Although these are not as polished as similar Disneyland attractions, they're fun enough. And the lines are way shorter.
The Aladdin Show is a great Broadway style production (the highest quality I've ever seen in a theme park). Definitely recommended.
And don't miss Golden Dreams, it's a lot less politically correct than I thought it would be, though still patriotic. I was surprised that discrimination against immigrants and George Moscone (a mayor of San Francisco who was assasinated) made it pass the Disney censors.

Why not? I loved California Adventure. It isn't like Disneyland. If you think that way before you go, you won't be dissapointed. Its more of what my husband and I like to call a "chill park," much like EPCOT is at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida.
There are more shows than rides. However, the rides they do have are awesome. Here are my top must-see attractions and shows at California Adventure:
Rides:
Soarin' Over California
California Screamin'
Tower of Terror
River Rapids
Any of the rides on Paradise Pier
Shows:
Its Tough to Be a Bug 3D
Aladdin- at the Hyperion theatre... sit in the messanine section!
Golden Dreams (I think that is the title) - hosted by Whoopie Goldberg
The Disney Animation Station
If you're still unsure, get a 1 day park hopper pass. Start off your day at CA and then if you are bored, you can walk over to Disneyland and finish up your day there!

I'm a fan of California Adventure. I'm way over Disneyland, can't stand the crowds.
California Adventure is great for teens and adults, not as cutesy as Disneyland. Lots of great rides - Grizzly Bear Mountain is a water ride that you get off of and want to get right back in line. Soaring Over California is one of those "Back to the Future" type rides and is fun. The big roller coaster is great... if you like those falling rides they have one, Tower of Terror I think it is.
You can do California Adventure in a half day, maybe a bit longer if there are lines. It's just way more low key, has much better food and concessions and just isn't as chaotic as Disneyland. My family tends to go to Disneyland early in the day and then head over to California Adventure for the afternoon, evening on one of those "Park Hopper" tickets.

Disneyland. I'm a Cali native and I thought California Adventure WAS boring. Of course you should try it... then you know what it is about and get it out of your system. It's a good place to take visitors or those who have never been to California. How long does it take? It depends on what you make of it... personally, a couple of hours tops... Have fun!

DEFINATELY Disneyland! Disneyland has lots to pick from! they have rides, video games, eating places, lodges and lodges interior sight (to not point out parades on trip journeys and particular activities) . that's lots relaxing! They even have all the Disney characters! yet California adventure park has little or no rides and from what i've got heard from maximum of my pals who went there, does not have too lots to grant...yet the two way they're somewhat close. yet i could recommend Disneyland. ;)

California Adventure has a main focus of California than Disneyland does.
It's a lovely place to go to; I heard it less crowded than Disneyland, apparently
One neat attraction is Soarin' Over California; if you go, try it!

Why don't you wait for the 2fer promotion (usually around March/April) where you pay for one park and go to both parks for that price? I believe the 2fer promotion is yearly so instead of wasting money, try to take advantage of the face that you live in CA. (Don't forget that only So. CA can do the 2fer thing. If you live in the north, maybe a relative in the south can help you.)
