Abraham did not know what the result would be, and that is the point more than if GOD already knew the result.
Obviously God wanted to make sure Abraham would trust him, and using his son was a very effective way to do so.

Good question - but God gave man the ultimate freedom to make that decision on his or his own..He may have known what was going to happen but he did not MAKE it happen.

Everyone needs to remember that GOD from the OLD TESTAMENT is so much different than the NEW TESTAMENT. He made changes to adapt to us. God was unforgiving, but he made that change, gave his 1st son to us - to die for us and forgivness of our sins..

Now here is my question - if Jesus died for our sins - and he was resurrected - then did his death actually count - I mean its not like he actually died for eternity - it was 3 days...I find it hard to swallow that GOD could think this is enough for us to believe. I personally would have like to see JESUS die forever - and see GODs pain in result of it - that would be true sacrifice for his children..

anyways - If I were GOD - there is no way this world will suffer this way because this would be the most embarrasing creation. How could GOD look down and say - WOW - I did good..That is why I believe that not only there are better worlds and creation, I also believe GOD created the earth and he just up and left it and never has done a Preventative Maintenance to it...Its hard to believe there is a power God who sits and really doesnt do anything for us...

He did not know the result. Just because you have the ability to look through a window does not mean you always will. God created us free moral agents. We all have the choice to act righteously or not. Abraham made the correct choice.

god has had a way of putting most people to the tests of time that have been close to him. personally i thnk it is pretty shitty the he has treated the people closest to him. why belive in something just to get drilled by it. Really look at what he has done to the jews. Do yo really think a god would let his people suffer like this? Turning there wifes into salt if they look back. I was a paster in the lutheren church and i can tell you the ways of the bible can be a wicked and i do know from experience. The reaason he does things like that is because he really does not give a **** about man kind a is more likly to help satin who is his counter pantner that some one who devotes there life to his stupid cause.

a teacher cannot give his student the A without him first taking the test even if he knows that he will pass.

Abraham's tests also show an example for the world to look up to.

The supreme test of Abraham’s faith came about 20 years later. According to Jewish tradition, Isaac was now 25 years old. (Jewish Antiquities, by F. Josephus, I, 227 [xiii, 2]) In obedience to Jehovah’s instructions Abraham took Isaac and traveled N from Beer-sheba at the Negeb to Mount Moriah, situated directly N of Salem. There he built an altar and prepared to offer up Isaac, the promised seed, as a burnt sacrifice. And indeed Abraham “as good as offered up Isaac,” for “he reckoned that God was able to raise him up even from the dead.” Only at the last moment did Jehovah intervene and provide a ram as a substitute for Isaac on the sacrificial altar. It was, therefore, this implicit faith backed up by complete obedience that moved Jehovah to reinforce his covenant with Abraham with a sworn oath, a special legal guarantee.—Ge 22:1-18; Heb 6:13-18; 11:17-19.

I am not a theist, but I think the Judeo-Christian answer would be that Abraham needed to know the result.
