Mormons are Christians

They believe in Jesus, what else consitutes being a Christian?

Sure they do. The question is; "Are they?"

The definition you apply to "Christian" is at issue here.

If you accept the word of the individual, then since Mormons say they are Christians, you would accept them at their word.

If you're looking to the Bible to define terms for you, a case might be made that only those born from above into the family of Jesus Christ are Christians.

If that's the case, then we as men cannot know who is a Christian, who is deceived, and who is a deceiver.

All descended from Adam inherit the heritage of death, only those born again into the family of Jesus Christ the Righteous gain the heritage of life in the age to come.

That being said, it's not so much the capacity of the mind to know, but the transaction of the heart that occurred at the foot of the cross that determines who will enter into life.

We can inspect the fruit produced in a life, but can never know.

Nope...well, nm.

I lied.

They believe they are Christians, just not a part of Christianity.

Although many people identify the Latter Day Saint movement as a denomination of Protestantism, Mormons do not consider themselves to be Protestants and do not recognize themselves as part of any larger branch of Christianity, but do consider themselves Christians.[1]

Mormons do consider themselves Christians, but no other Christian group considers Mormons to be Christians. This has to do, among other things, with fundamental differences on the nature of Christ. Mormons do not believe the doctrines concerning Christ laid down in the ecumenical creeds (the Nicene and Apostles' creeds), but believe that he was created by God.

Mormon beliefs do bear some superficial resemblance to orthodox Christianity, but the doctrine departs in sufficiently major ways that no major Christian group would recognize Mormons as being Christians.

Indeed they do... although many christians don't consider them so. The difference is that many xtians believe the trinity means the "three are one", whereas LDS believe the trinity is three separate individuals. The get called "polythieists" because of this difference in philosophy. However, they believe in christ as savior and that he atoned for humankinds sins.

One other difference is that they do not believe in original sin. They believe each person will be held accountable for their own sins and not the sins of adam and eve.

Other than that... and the extra book "the continuing tales of christ" (book of mormon). They are much the same as many xtian theologies.

By the way, I'm related to most of them! lol

The Mormons were part of a larger sect of reformers. Around the early 1800s groups of religious reformers sought to establish communities based on their beliefs and methods. They started by establishing small communities or organizations to show others how well their way of life worked and prospered in hopes of attracting others to their cause. The Mormons were, simply speaking, the most successful of theses attempts. Founded by Joseph Smith in the 1820s, they would be the victims of persecution for many of their first years. Smith claimed to have found and translated an ancient text he called the “Mormon Text.” He claimed this text was in the form of hieroglyphics on plates of gold and described the lives and adventures of the Israelites that inhabited America from biblical times. The Mormons, under Smith, were very exclusive and thought of themselves as the chosen people. This caused outsiders to dislike and distrust them. They were forced to move from western New York to Missouri, back to Illinois where they founded the city of Nauvoo. Problems began to emerge amongst the followers and soon rumor began to swirl that the Mormons planned on taking over the entire Northwest. This caused locals to rise against them and arrest Smith, who was murdered by a mob in his jail cell. The Mormons found a new leader in Brigham Young who moved them to the Great Salt Lake area in 1847, where they made a significant impact on America. In 1850 they were adopted as part of the Utah territory, where they are still the majority church in the state. They also had a large impact on the settlement of the west and are still thriving in the U.S. and Europe.

As far as being Christians, I'm not too sure.
