This is my first Thanksgiving in the free world and it is going to be totally traditional. For 17 1/2 years while serving a sentence for a crime I did not commit, I made do with the dinner the prisons put on, which isn't really very good at all, so now I get to make my own for my family and I am thrilled. Have a blessed Thanksgiving, whatever you decide to make
turkey
ham
broccolli casserole
candied yams
stuffing
mashed potatoes
roasted vegetables
corn
biscuits
corn bread
string beans
apple pie
pumpkin pie

A few years ago I found this sweet potato recipe, its different than the usual. Everyone insists that I make it now every year.

Praline Sweet Potatoes

INGREDIENTS
4 cups mashed sweet potatoes
1/2 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
4 eggs, beaten
1/2 pint heavy cream
1/4 pound butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups chopped pecans

DIRECTIONS
1. Butter one 2 quart casserole dish. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sweet potatoes, sugar, vanilla extract, eggs and cream. Blend well, and spread evenly in casserole dish.
3. Prepare the topping by combining the butter, brown sugar, flour and pecans. Mix until crumbly, and sprinkle over sweet potato mixture.
4. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven.

Sometimes I add some cinnamon and nutmeg on top.

I also make a broccoli chesse & rice casserole & a chocolate bourbon pecan pie along with all the other usual dishes.

It will be just me and my boyfriend, and maybe a few friends stopping by. I'm not very traditional.

I am going to make:

Steamed Wild Salmon over a Buerre Rouge Sauce and topped with a Mushroom Reduction
Lobster Macaroni and Cheese
Bok Choy (he is Korean and I've never made it before)

That's the mental menu for now.

ur families totally enjoy fried chicken, baked honey ham, green beans, mashed potatos and gravy, corn, huge green salad, and, from the grill, sirloin steak - cut into strips...served with mushrooms. Excellent!
