I'm 14, 5'5", and weigh 76 lbs. I've been anorexic for over a year, but am starting to get better. I really find it hard to mentally handle gaining weight and could use support, advice, and suggestions. I want to get rid of the anorexia, but yet I don't. It's really hard for me to handle. thanx

I am currently seeing a phycologist every other week out of town, but to be honest, it isn't very helpful to me.

anorexia is one of the hardest mental health issues to deal with for docs and patients. The denial is very stubborn. you wont get what you need here, you need ongoing pro help, support groups etc. Good luck god bless.

I think you're on the right path Sweetie. But like someone else here has said-you can't get the help that you really need from someone who isn't trained to relate to your needs. Put yourself first! You are and always will be the most important person you know. Taking the initiative to do something about your issue is your first step and it looks like that's where your headed. We all have our crosses to bear; for some it's overeating or alcohol abuse etc. There are so many outlets for you to look into and you can start by getting all the info that you can get on this topic through the internet but in the long run support from a professional and others who have been there will get you through this. My prayers are with you.

It's hard i know. Congrats for recovering, it is a good deal, 76 lbs is not a good weight of your age. But what you can do is try and just eat good food, food that will make you gain weight. Dont read labels because that will put you off of eating it! Try and get people to help you with this, ask family, friends to help and join you for eating. Eat what they eat. Ask your parents or guardians to change the menu for you, make sure it will make you gain some weight and that you will eat it. Try not to starve, because starving yourself isnt cool! At school try and eat some French fries or burgers, taste a bit of it and you will probably like it. I know its hard but if this didnt work, than i guess it has to be therapy. Good luck!

First of all, congratulations for starting on the road to recovery! Think of it this way - you want to get rid of the anorexia, but why? Because you want to be happier and healthier, right? To be happier and healthier, you need to gain weight. There isn't any way around it! You will feel so much better after you are back to a healthy weight. You will start feeling healthier, you will feel good about eating, and you will enjoy life like never before. Hang in there and keep working through your recovery. You will thank yourself! I wish you the best of luck.

I'm in the same position as you are.
Our stats are almost the same too!
I've really become spiritual since I've turned into the road towards recovery. It's helping but I always go into denial. I'm struggling too but it helps to have one thing, like a religion, for you to cling to.
I'm Christian so when I listen to sermons or read prayers, It gives me a bit of hope - There's a book I recommend by Ted Haggard "Simple Prayers for a Powerful Life". I don't know what religious background you are, but if you do pray, the second last prayer in this book is great.
Good luck
