I had an upper edoscopy with a biopsy. The nurse told me they did the biopsy to make sure whatever it is, is not infected. I was so out of it because they put me under I didn't ask questions. What could they have possibly biopsied and what are they looking for? Has anyone ever had this done to them before? What were the results?

They were probably looking for the bacteria H. pylori (helicobactor), a common cause of gastritis and ulcers. The bx is a common procedure, and the disease can be treated with medication. Gastritis and gastric ulcers can be painful and can mimic other problems (such as a heart attack). If left untreated, the bacteria and erode the esphogus and the stomach leading to bleeding and lots of pain.
I would be more worried had they not did this biopsy. Great news is that this is easliy treated.
