You didn't say what time Martha left. It will take John 2 hours to catch up with Martha, which will be 4 hours from the time MARTHA left the house (assuming they left from the same house). So if Martha left the house at, say, 8 a.m., John will catch up with her at noon.

End of hour 1: Martha 24, John 0
End of hour 2: Martha 48, John 0
End of hour 3 for Martha, hour 1 for John: Martha 72, John 48
End of hour 4 for Martha, hour 2 for John: Martha 96, John 96

Martha has a 2 hour head start up wherein era she rides 24 x 2 = forty 8 miles. verify how many miles in line with hour swifter John can force, and divide forty 8 with the help of this to verify how many hours it takes him to capture up.

x=v*t+x(0)

you know velocity for each, set x equal to one another, solve for time. you have to first figure out x(0).
