You will be able to get a digital TV receiver to use with your set, so you never have to replace it.

The plan is to stop all analogue broadcasting in the UK at some point in 2008 after that you will have to use a digi decoder (freeview) to pick up a signal, you can get one now quite cheap they may increase in price around that time due to demand not sure but you get all major channels and some others for a one of payment. You don't need a Hd TV necessarily that's just to do with the quality of the picture it's the digital receiver that's important either a separate box or Incorporated into the TV.

if you have an external freeview box then i would say your TV will work until the hardware fails. The standard 5 channels will be around for 6 or more years and after that freeview, or a replacement will be arround for many years to come. If you are worried about HDTV then don't be. There isn't enough content, or TVs out there to make any difference to the polder SD TV.

A long time probably, first theres the conversion from analog broadcasting to digital which was going to be 2008 but somehow I doubt it.
TVs are so cheap now by 2010 theyll be paying you to take them away.

It really depends on how long you have had it, and the condition of the house where it resides. Although if you are wondering when SD )standard def) tv's will become out of date they already have.
