I went to church today. I go every week. The priest gave an excellent homily on the widow's mite. In the Catholic Church, the readings are the same throughout the entire Church--throughout the entire world. Every Catholic Church had the same readings.
The first is always from the Old Testament--this weekend was on Elijah and the poor widow and her son who did not have enough oil and flour.
The second was from the New Testament where the widows were not getting enough to eat and the people were complaining. The third reading is always from the gospels. This week was Jesus commenting on the widow who gave all she had to the temple collection.
Anyway, I think it's cool how every week the readings are the same throughout the universal Church, and how all three readings relate to eachother!
God Bless you!

My third Sunday of church, our pastor wasn't there. So, he got someone else to preach, and he hopped all over the Bible, talking about discipleship, and what it means to serve God as a disciple. It was a very good sermon, even though he was REALLY nervous because he had never spoken in front of so many people before.

Yes, my family and I went to church. The sermon was Part 8,000 in a 10,000 part series on "Faith." (Just kidding, but pastor has been preaching on this for at least two months.) Today, he discussed true faith and false faith.
Peace.
p.s. -- young man, aren't you cold without a shirt on? My goodness.

Ours was about giving: Mark 12:42-44
42 A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.
43
Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, "Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury.
44
For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood."
