Check and see how often you're using the straightener. Heat destroys hair like nothing else, and blow dryers, straighteners, and curlers do just this. You may not want to straighten as often. I straighten my hair only once a week, and the rest of the time I let scrunch my hair with just some scrunching mousse and hairspray. Also, check to see if the straightening iron is made of ceramic or metal. Ceramic is a little easier on the hair and does a better job. "Chi" straighteners, even though they're expensive, are very high quality and do an excellent job. "Curl Master" is another excellent name brand that does a good job and is a little cheaper.

I'm gonna have to go with the CHI. However, if your problem is dry hair.. Use product. A good conditioner should help. Plus, you can get spray that you use while straightening your hair that will protect it from the heat while you style. Matrix has a good one. It's in an orange spray bottle, and you can get it at most salons.

The most proffesional straightners available.. being GHDS. If you have very thick or curly hair get the thick styled ones, if not the thin ones will do fine, and there a bit cheaper. GHDS arent usually sold in shops, because of their high price, but there sold in most hair salons, and are available a bit cheaper on the internet, especially on Ebay where you can buy brand new ones for about 30 less..
the thick ones cost around = £100-125
thin ones= £70-95
There defiently worth splashing out on! =)

As a licensed stylist, i truly recommend a CHI iron coupled with the CHI Silk Infusion reconstructing complex/straightening balm. This combination actually infuses liquid silk into the hair along with soy and wheat proteins. This not only gives you perfectly smooth hair every time, it also helps repair the hair during straightening which not many can bast!! Hope you get a chance to try this combo!!

There really is no "best" one. Do you use the straightener with dryed hair? Yu should try to use it with damp hair. Not too wet though.
