Earlier I read Dr Seuss to the children and then I read Poe's Tales. Within a few minutes language can change the way you feel, happy, sad, thoughtful, stupid... ;)
Isn't the unimaginative way, in which it's mostly used today, very, very sad?

Language is awesome. Indeed it can make you feel anything. And basically, I don't agree with you that language today is unimaginative. Maybe some people talk or write without too much 'imagination', but if you look well, you will find beautiful, powerful and creative texts all over the place. Of course not everyone can Poe, but that doesn't mean nobody can. Don't lose your faith in language, mate. That's a waste.

I love the fact that I can go into a library and read the thoughts of someone who died a long time ago, or who doesn't speak my language, or whose life is a million miles away from mine in terms of everyday experience.
The American Indians didn't have a written language. There's a scene in 'The Last of the Mohicans' where, to impress the Chief, a white guy asks him "What's your Mother's name?", then writes on a piece of paper.
He tells the Chief to give it to someone a few yards away, who looks at it and says "Your Mother's name is ...."(whatever he'd said).
The chief was clearly overwhelmed. Probably thought this was witchcraft.
What power those funny little squiggles can have. Words are awesome.

Definitely! That's why no matter where you go in the worl you see people with their noses buried in books.
I think there are still quite a few imaginative books written today though. Speaking of childrens books, can you get any more imaginative than Harry Potter?

Yes, language is really great=D. The expressal of one's thoughts into pages and pages, the rythematic flow, the alphabet, basically it's communicative power speaks its own mind..

Yes language is good and all.......But I can't help but wondering who actually invented the words themselves and did that person mean for it to mean what it does today?

I agree completely, that is why I try to rhyme things as much as possible or use creative spelling here and there.
The art of language is beyond beautiful and totally inspiring.
