I was wondering if they sweat, or if they cool down by panting.

They cool down primarily by panting, as they don't have sweat glands scattered throughout their skin like we do. They DO have sweat glands in their paws, however, and they do sweat through them. (Same for cats.)

Lots of animals sweat. Whoever said that only humans and pigs perspire through their skin has obviously never seen a horse after a good run.

Answer Dogs have the ability to sweat, but in places that are a little different from humans. Dogs sweat through their pads and feet. Their skin and armpit areas don't contain sweat glands like ours do. Their main method of ridding themselves from heat, however, is by panting, which is a very different mechanism than what we generally use.

For these reasons, we must take great care to protect our dogs from heat stroke. Dogs with compromised respiration, like bulldogs and pugs, are at a very high risk of easily overheating just because they can't pant very efficiently.

They don't sweat. Panting is what cools them down. You were right.

The only place the sweat is through their paw pads, other than that they pant to coold down.

No, they don't sweat and yes, that is why they pant...it is how they "cool down".

They use panting to cool down. They don't have any pores to sweat through.
