If God were not patient, he would not be currently putting up with you and me.
By the way, since you are priding yourself on taking a bible verse out of context, why don't you interpret this one for me?
"...if..." -The Holy Bible
Do you get it?

First of all, the Bible CLEARLY doesn't say that God will do those things. All it says is "Whoever is captured will be thrust through; all who are caught will fall by the sword....." And yes, God IS a patient and peaceful God.

It depends on the testament. Supposedly the Old Testament is about God's law, and the New is about God's love. Bible thumpers seem to favor the old, and only like certain passages from the Gospels and Revelation.

Hun, are you actually reading the text surrounding these verses? This is a prophecy against Babylon...
It can be read as a warning for the enemies of God's people today...or simply as a prophecy about what happened to the actual Babylon.

God, in the Old Testament, seems to be a fearsome, unforgiving God. I mean, he floods the Earth in Genesis to rid the world of corruption. For forgiviness, people would sacrafice animals to Him. Doesn't seem so patient and peaceful, right?
But in the New Testament, however, we a see a softer, more peaceful God. He sends his only Son to Earth to die for the sins of all mankind. He sends this Messiah to heal the people of the World; to save them.
Honestly, I have no idea why the transition between Old and New...
My theory? God was tired of the corruption of his people. And he was running out of ideas to save them. It's like watching your kids mess up over and over again. Eventually you don't know what to do anymore. He may be God, but he is our Father. A parent, who didn't know what to do with his children anymore. I think when he finally came up with the Jesus idea, and people began to respond that he became more merciful... His children came to understand. And, although the world wasn't fixed, it was significantly better.

God showed himself as someone to be feared because he has the power to do those things. But that was just a prophecy to his people because they had foresaken him. In the New Testament when God sent his only son into the world to die for all our sins..including yours...he shows his true love for us. Yes i believe that God is a patient and peaceful God...If you get to know him yourself ull see it too

The Bible is contradictory, giving no clear definition of "god", his values or principals, making it impossible to love such a being. Anyone who says they love god is just projecting their own personal values onto their imagined image of him. In fact they go so far as to say that god in unfathomable, admitting that love is impossible, making it out to be some mystical magic spell one casts, when in fact love is always based on real values and actions of the other person reflected from your own values and actions.

It's a proclamation against the ancient empire of Babylon! It's a prophecy! God is saying that he'll destroy his people's enemies, that's all. And yes, Babylon did fall eventually to the Persians.

In the beginning I don't think GOD was so tolerant because of all the sinning in the OT (Before Christ) but because of what JESUS did for us, thus I think that he is more tolerant today than before, as far as peaceful he CREATED PEACE, so he is and was always peaceful!!!!

Nope. He's depicted to be quite the violent guy, but then again, all the better to fool people into submission with, eh?
