My little sister got a piercing on the skin _below_ her lower lip, like a reverse Marilyn Monroe piercing. Anyway, they put a sorta-big round stud in there and the metal circle backing looks as though it's "sinking" into her skin, It's still on the surface of her inner lip, but it appears to be almost level with it, like the skin's opening up and swallowing the backing. Is this part of the healing process or is she having some weird reaction to the foreign material in her mouth?

When she got her belly pierced, the ring was being pushed out to the surface by her skin and she had to remove it. Could the same thing be happening to the piercing on her mouth?

Labret would be the name of this piercing. If its recient, there will be swelling and it might make the piercing look a little odd. Once the swelling does go down, you will notice that the back will sink in slightly though it is a common sighting with all labret piercings. But always check this periodically. If the piercing is traumatized (aka she gets hit in the mouth) or if she uses a labret stud that is too short she can over time experience embedding. You will notice this happening if you cannot see any of the backing of the jewelry, if thats the case, get a longer barbell or take it out to heal.

While this is highly unpleasant and very unfortunate, its is also rather unlikely to happen if she takes good care of it. Hopefully it was done by a professional with proper jewelry and aftercare was followed

As far as her body rejecting the navel piercing, you have to remember that navel piercings are surface piercings and not everyone's anatomy is suited for a navel piercing. As with all surface piercings, they are generally hit or miss as far as whether or not they stay. It often has little to do with the piercer, the jewelry or the person with it. Rather, its just the body and a result from aftercare (if aftercare is done in a poor fashion) The rejection caused here would be something very different than the labret.

Overall, if she is worried, she should see a piercer. Its hard to go off of over the internet descriptions and most of the time, seeing it in person is best. Good luck and let me know if you have other questions I can answer in the time being.

she will have a dent for a while just cause it's gonna get used to the piercing being there. But it just looks like that cause her lip is swollen. After a while like a month or so she can get a different size stud, they use a larger one to pierce it with.

i had my lip done and it sunk in aswell this is kinda normal the piercer told me that it does happen an it lioke indented the inside of my lip but u jst have to be careful because when theyre pierced with studs the skin can swalllow it and the metal back is stuck in your lip so keep it clean and look after it mines fine now

so hard to say without seeing it.

Labret jewelry normally has a flat back to protect your teeth. Swelling is normal with fresh piercing, so i'd imagine that's what makes it look sunken in.
