Arthritis is a symptom of Lupus, not a cause.

2006-11-12 06:32:23 · answer #1 · answered by littlemomma 4 · 0 0

Arthitis is not a cause of Lupus (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus), However, newer medications have been associated with drug-induced lupus, such as the new biological agents used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, etanercept (Enbrel), infliximab (Remicade), adalimumab (Humira).

Generally, lupus that is caused by a drug exposure goes away once the drug is stopped. Nevertheless, lupus occurs as a result of an infection (which could be in association with inflammation of arthitis) you should discuss this issue with your doctor since the most common initial complaints of lupus are fatigue, fever, and muscle and joint pain.

Hope this answers your question!

It doesn't look like it. But drug induced lupus is possible with some arthritis medication. I have listed a very informative web page as my source, it can probably help you if you have any other questions. Hope this was helpful.

uh, usually you have lupus that comes along with Rheumatiod Arthritis. I have sicca syndrome related to lupus. they thought i had RA but luckily i don't. It is Rheumatiod Arthritis that is related to Lupus. I do have arthritis but not RA.
Strange, as far as i know they are not sure what exactly causes Lupus, unless it is drug induced.

useally you already have lupus when you have arthritis. They arer both auto-immune-connective tissue diseases. Arthritis is a symptom of lupus, so if you have not been diagnosed, you probally do not have anything to worry about
