We win the wars but lose the peace. Our military is the best on earth but trying to win a guerrilla conflict that has the backing of it's people is like an Olympic swimmer trying to swim up a waterfall, just can't be done

Iraq & Vietnam were wars of invasion by the US. With VN, the US went in on the side of the South VN's dictator in a civil war. When you have the people against you, as now is happening in Iraq also, it's impossible to win. The Afghanistan situation is a bit different. There is an interesting fact about that nation though.
In 2000, the Taliban, under a UN program outlawed the growing of opium. This initiative reduced the GNP of that country by 90 % in one year. The US invaded in October 2001, by November the Taliban were removed from power and its back to business as usual, November is the beginning of the planting season and by the spring of 2002 (harvest) Opium production was back up to its pre 2000 levels. The 2003 harvest saw Afghanistan as worlds leading opium producer. This is all easily verifiable, check it out...I did. The CIA/ Kellogg Brown and Root (a Halliburton Subsidiary) have a long history in the drug trade.
Remember the Iran/Contra scandal.
I found it somewhat ironic that yesterday at the 11/11 memorial, while our troops are fighting in Afghanistan we were all wearing poppies.

Maybe a win of sorts in Iraq. Afghanistan is a Vietnam. The mountain tribes are much like the Vietnamese just want to be left alone with no loyality to the Central Government. Then there is the North and South, The tribes of the South in Afghanistan have no love lost on the North and like the Vietnamese no desire to change or join.their, loyality is to their local leaders Nobody has understood them not the French Brits or Russians who were there.

We were busting ass in Viet Nam until the media turned against us. Afghanistan doesn't really have much going on right now and we did remove the Taliban, so that in itself is a victory. Iraq has had free elections. To say we're not winning is to like saying our forefathers aren't winning against England because we have riots in South Central Los Angeles.

Just because the media and the democrats choose to compare this Iraq/Afghanistan to Vietnam, it doesn't mean they are alike. In fact they are three very separate actions.

When will our own people quit stabbing each other in the back? We have to many wankers in this country who will only sit and cry when we are under attack again. It will happen.
We boast the finest military in the world and we have fine men and women standing in line to serve, but the loud, persistent whines of those that would allow others in the world to slap us in the face and get away with it seem to become more important to our leadership than the determined, loyalty of the MAJORITY.
We must either be willing to fight to win or bend over and take it.
