i recently applied a picture of a website as my desktop wallpaper, applying it through the "set as background" option when right clicking on it.

without saving it to my documents where is the image location in my hard drive?

It will be saved as a bitmap file at c:\documents and settings\\application data\microsoft\internet exporer\

The best way to locate your wallpaper BMP is to go into control panel ---> Display--->Desktop, click the browse button and check the "Look In" drop-down box.

It's under internet explorer wallpaper! Just follow the areas that the above person posted and that will take you right to it! Basic got to your "C" drive, then click on windows, click web, then click wallpaper and you see the pic you currently have on your desktop.
