The same reasons adults in art therapy do. They feel the response they get is not threatening and what they express seems to be more accepted and respected in drawings. Look at how much money people pay for art. Your question itself could indcate you wish they'd just talk ie lack of respect, but I don't realy want to say that you could just be curious.

children find it easier to draw out thier problems for lots of reasons. Sometimes they don't have the vocabulary to put into words what has happened or what they feel. Sometimes drawing is less stressful than talking - if the subject is very emotionally charged words are more difficult. Drawing is a more private activity and it doesn't need to be explained in detail the child knows what it all means.
hope this helps

It's easier for children to express themselves that way. Children get embarrased easily and the drawing lets them express themselves in ways they verbally can't. They also may not be able to put what they saw or had happen to them in words, so they draw what they remember.

Until a child is 8 years old he has trouble verbally expressing things. Even something as simple as a tummy ache can be hard for him to explain.

It is easier for them to express themselves with drawings. they really don't have the vocabulary to explain what they are feeling. Plus they don't have to talk face to face with a picture.

They have not developed the fine skills to verbal express their feelings.
They learn the skills as they mature. Then they become adult men and forget them all over again and start expressing themselves by burping and scratching themselves. LOL.

maybe they haven't learned how to talk to someone about their problem. So drawing is the only way they know how.

children don't have the knowledge or the understanding to express their problems so they chose a means that they know they can do.
