the good man brings good things our of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things our of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be accquittted, and by your words you will be condemned.

Well, lets not take this out of context, here is the whole passage:

33"Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit.
34"You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak what is good? For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart.

35"The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil.

36"But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment.

37"For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

Basically Jesus was speaking to the scribes and Pharisees as they where questioning his words and actions.

To me, the Pharisees where trying to trip up Jesus with their words. Jesus rebuked them.

Basically, I believe it is saying that our character is known by what we say and what we do. If we say and do good then good will come to us, however, if we say and do bad then bad will come to us in the end. God take an account of all we do here on earth, one day we will be judged.

God Bless You and Peace be with you.

This might not be the best answer but. He who has genuine goodness in his heart and real evil in his heart. Will in the final days be judged accordingly. If you are a good person deep inside sometimes unintentionally making mistakes but ask for forgiveness you be judged leading to goodness. And if really mean spirited there will lead to bad judgment by the man upstairs. Good versus evil intentions. Maybe Revelations in the Bible will help.

Yes, get all the vileness out of your system here on earth so that when it is time to be judged your stored up evil is depleted and you can't even speak evil, while the person who did good things is also depleted and has nothing nice to say about God on judgement day.

It basically means that what comes out of you in words and actions, is an indication of what is inside you.

One day, we will stand before God and explain everything we have done and said. I don't know if it literally means every word we say, such as "wowm what a nice day," but probably more along the lines of hurtful things we said, compared to the kind things we said.

You reap what you sow.

If you are genuinely a kind and good person your actions and words will show it and vice verses for evil.

And when you are judged by "God" these actions and words will speak for you.

PS..one does not have to hold a religious belief to be good and evil can be found in those professing their piety.

I think different people can get different meanings. I think it means that everyone can have good and/or evil inside them. It will come out in different ways, depending on how u want it 2. On judgement day u will be faced with all those decisions. They can either condemn you, or acquit you.

A person is to be judged by his/her actions and words. Thankfully, as a Christian, my mis-words and mis-deeds (sins) have been atoned, through the sacrifice of Christ Jesus and I am seen through His perfection.

We strive to live a Christ-like life, but since we are human and weak, we will falter. Jesus gave up His life to make atonement for my sins and I will be judged by His actions, not my own.

It means, what ever evil you is being written in a record, as well as your good deeds. And on the day of Judgement, you will see what your deeds have earned you.

[024:024] On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their legs (or feet) will bear witness against them as to what they used to do.

[024:025] On that Day Allâh will pay them the recompense of their deeds in full, and they will know that Allâh, He is the Manifest Truth.
