Does this mean he/she is ready to fire a missile or does it mean something else, like they are going to explode or something? I can't find this answer any place. :( And no I'm not trying to build a bomb or something. I'm doing story research!

Going straight up, like a rocket. Despite what Goose said to Maverick in Top Gun, it's not a commonly said thing.

You should also keep in mind that if you're not sure how it's used, your audience may not be either. Use terms that your audience knows or can easily discern from contextual clues.
